Club History

Rocky Creek Sporting Clays was developed out of a hunting property owned by David Chesnutt. After the hunt, David wanted something fun to entertain his friends and family. It all started with a manual clay target thrower. The more everyone did it, the more they enjoyed. Especially the young’uns. Eventually the Rocky Creek Claydusters was developed.

As more kids joined in on the shooting, the parents wanted a place to shoot. What you see now developed from the manual clay target thrower. Over the years, the club has turned into a top notch facility like no other. With strong southern traditions and charm, you will feel welcomed at every step from this “old hunting property”.

Rocky Creek Sporting Clays encompasses approximately 300 acres on the west side of Mountain Gap Rd. This is where you will find the clubhouse, 5-stand, pavilion, new shooter learning area and the beautiful “Creek Course”. The Creek Course is the original course and is designed along Rocky Creek. On the “Creek Course” you will find an entertaining and fun course with a lot of shots similar to what you would see in the field hunting such species as quail, pheasants, ducks, geese or dove. This is a great course to practice in the “off-season”, bring a new shooter, entertain customers or just to come out by yourself.

Rocky Creek leases another 300 acres of the Oak Grove Plantation on east side of Mountain Gap Rd. OGP is rich in history as a working farm. The old homestead is still standing and was built in 1790. The farm property that holds the “Oak Course” and “Field Course” is absolutely beautiful with picturesque landscapes.

The terrain is rolling hills that once were hay and cattle fields. This property is also full of mature oaks and pines. Typically, either the “Field Course” or the “Oak Course” is set up. On this property, the courses will be set up for the tournament shooter. Targets tend to be a little farther and faster than you would find on the “Creek Course”.

Rocky Creek caters to all shooters and their skill levels. From the shooter who hunts once a year, to the tournament shooter that shoots thousands of shells a year, we welcome you to Rocky Creek Sporting Clays!
