Hermitage Farm Shooting Sports
January 9th, 2010
The weatherman was correct for the first time. He had predicted temperatures to be unseasonably cold and he was dead on! In fact, all week long the mercury didn’t get much higher than the mid-thirties and for range owner Joe Cantey it made setting the course a challenge. Of the three courses at Hermitage Farm Shooting Sports Joe decided to use the Loblolly course. This was due to the fact that it is wide enough to drive your car around from station to station. It gave shooters a chance to get some relief from the elements in between stations.
Sixty-three brave and hearty shooters came out to test their skill and dedication. The early squads endured temps in the twenties and those that shot closer to midday lucked out with temps in the thirties. The SCSCA opted to let trappers go out with each squad instead of having them at each station. No one had to wait to shoot as the USC ROTC sent 25 members to help with the tournament.
The scores were lower than usual, but no one complained about their “hit-ability” as they all huddled around the clubhouse fire that was kept roaring all day. The lunch was an all- you- can -eat buffet style meal catered by a local restaurant.
Hopefully the March 27th circuit shoot at River Bend will have better weather!!
